Palamós closed the maritime festival Palamós Terra de Mar with 18,000 visitors during the weekend of May 23 and 24. The event brought together a program in the port and its surroundings focused on the dissemination of the marine environment, traditional navigation, and professional activity linked to the sea.
This year's edition combined the festive format with a more visible emphasis on research and science applied to the coast. This dual aspect, between the offering for all audiences and the exhibition of marine technology and knowledge, marked a program that the City Council places among the nautical references of the Costa Brava.
The UdG brought underwater robots and the Navy showed the Tofiño ship
One of the focuses of the festival was on scientific knowledge of the sea. The Underwater Robotics Center of the University of Girona presented autonomous underwater vehicles and conducted live demonstrations with educational robots.
The hydrographic ship Tofiño, from the Spanish Navy, specialized in marine cartography and the study of the seabed, could also be visited. To that technical part, the presence of institutional and professional vessels such as the Salvamar Sirius, units of the Mossos d'Esquadra and Agents Rurals, and patrol boats of the Guardia Civil was added.
Along with that activity, the public accessed traditional and fishing boats from Palamós, including boats dedicated to shrimp fishing and the historic Barques del Peix.
The routes covered the bay, Cala Margarida, La Fosca, and Castell-Cap Roig
The program also opened the coast to visitors with maritime routes through the bay of Palamós, Cala Margarida, La Fosca, and the natural space of Castell-Cap Roig. The offering on the water was completed with introductory activities in dinghy sailing, kayaking, and paddle surfing.
In addition, the festival included children's workshops and rowing demonstrations with Catalan llaguts. The lineup was expanded with a live gastronomic classroom of seafood cooking, guided tours of the Fishing Museum, an artisan market, and music and dance performances.
The Palamós City Council maintains that the combination of recreational, cultural, and scientific activities reinforces the educational profile of the event and its openness to diverse audiences. The May 23 and 24 edition closed with 18,000 attendees, according to the municipal report.
