The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested two men aged 28 and 24 in Figueres for their alleged connection to the robbery committed on March 11 at the Uró jewelry store in Manresa. The arrest occurred around 9:00 PM on March 17, when both were about to enter a jewelry establishment in the capital of Alt Empordà.
The investigators recognized them at that moment and proceeded to their arrest. The case linked to the Manresa assault is taken on by the Investigation Unit of the Bages police station, which keeps the proceedings open to clarify the scope of the activity attributed to the arrested.
Detained in Figueres when they were going to access another jewelry store
The police action occurred in Figueres after the two suspects were identified when, allegedly, they were preparing to enter a jewelry store in the city. The detainees are related to the theft committed in Manresa, although the investigation remains open and the Mossos do not specify for now if they may also be behind other similar incidents.
Investigation sources neither confirm nor deny, for the moment, that the arrested individuals are the perpetrators of other robberies in Catalonia. That line continues under analysis while more evidence is gathered and possible connections with other episodes are reviewed.
The robbery of Manresa and the tracking among jewelers
The event for which they have been arrested dates back to March 11, when the robbery occurred at the Uró jewelry store in Manresa. The person in charge of the establishment has thanked the actions of the Mossos d'Esquadra after the arrests made in Figueres.
"Being in this group has allowed all of us to be alerted almost in real time about the place where these people were operating" - Person in charge of Uró jewelry store, Manresa
That messaging group, made up of jewelers from different parts of Catalonia, would have served to maintain surveillance over the activity of the alleged gang and quickly share alerts among professionals in the sector. That exchange of information proved key to tracking their movements in different municipalities.
Robberies under investigation in several locations of Catalonia
The investigation points to a possible itinerant activity in jewelries of different Catalan regions. If that link is confirmed, the robberies attributed to this group would be located in establishments spread from Terres de l'Ebre to Alt Empordà, passing through Central Catalonia.
For now, the priority of the Mossos is to consolidate the case opened from the Bages police station and determine if the two detainees are related to more incidents. The investigation continues underway while new elements are analyzed to delimit their possible criminal trajectory in the territory.
