A regional train of the RG1 line had to be evacuated this Sunday in the province of Girona after being stopped in the middle of the track while covering the route between Portbou and Figueres. The incident has forced the interruption of the service and has affected about 50 passengers who were on board and have not been able to complete their planned journey.

Evacuation and transfer of the passengers

The convoy was stopped in an intermediate zone of the route and the travelers have remained inside until the evacuation has been organized. Civil Protection has communicated that another train will move to the adjacent track to facilitate the transfer of those affected and allow them to continue their journey safely.

Activation of the Ferrocat plan in pre-alert

Following the incident, the Ferrocat plan has been activated in pre-alert phase, a usual measure in situations that may affect railway safety or user mobility. The emergency device has been put into operation to coordinate the response and minimize the impact on circulation between Portbou and Figueres.

  • The regional train was traveling between Portbou and Figueres at the time of the incident.
  • Around 50 passengers have been evacuated and transferred to another train.
