Three workers see their workday reduced by 33% after Girona's departure from the Sarrià de Ter waste collection center

"Technical difficulties" make Girona abandon the waste collection point and affect Revalora employees

Three workers from the Sarrià de Ter waste collection center have seen their working day reduced by 33% after the Girona City Council abandoned the agreement for the use of the facility, a decision that has forced the reorganization of the service and has had a direct impact on the staff, according to CSIF.

The trade union central maintains that Girona's withdrawal from the agreement responds to "technical difficulties linked to the waste service" and recalls that, since Friday, March 13, the citizens of Girona can no longer use this facility. Since then, users must travel to the Mas Xirgu waste collection point.

Service Reorganization in Sarrià de Ter

The withdrawal of Girona from the agreement has forced Sarrià de Ter, Sant Julià de Ramis, Medinyà and Cervià de Ter to rethink the operation of the facility. The recycling center remains open with reduced hours to guarantee its economic viability, a measure that, according to CSIF, has ended up affecting the working conditions of part of the staff.

The union estimates the affected employees at three. All of them work at the facility through a private company and, always according to this version, have suffered a 33% reduction in both working hours and salary.

The union's complaint

CSIF assures that last Friday the mayors of Sarrià de Ter, Sant Julià de Ramis and Cervià de Ter went to the recycling center to directly communicate to the workers the reduction of working hours. That same day, adds the union, the concessionaire company Revalora informally transferred the new work schedule, without prior negotiation or the legal procedure that it considers enforceable.

The affected employees are personnel hired by the concessionaire Revalora and the union attributes responsibilities to the Consell Comarcal del Gironès, to the Girona City Council, to the company itself and to the municipal officials involved in the reorganization of the service.

Girona expects to reestablish the service in summer

The Girona City Council had reported that the forecast is to reestablish the service during the summer. Until then, the Sarrià de Ter waste collection center remains out of circuit for the residents of Girona, while the municipalities that continue to be linked to the facility maintain an adjusted operation.

CSIF demands that Revalora assume the full salary of the workers and warns that, if there is no rectification on the part of the company and the administrations involved, it will undertake legal actions to defend the rights of the affected employees.
