The Girona City Council has decided to change for safety the location of the Ludivers Festival, which this year will no longer be held in the Devesa gardens and will move to the Devesa promenade. The measure is adopted after the recommendation of the municipal technical services, which have advised not to organize the event in that area until the results of the studies being carried out are available.
The Ludivers, dedicated to play and the cultures of imagination and aimed at family audiences, had been held in recent years in the Devesa gardens. The council now modifies the location after the incidents recorded last year, when three trees fell in this space.
Change of venue for security reasons
The municipal decision comes in a context in which some trees have already been felled in La Devesa and specimens have also been pruned to reduce the risk. Awaiting the ongoing reports on this area, the festival will be relocated to the Devesa promenade, in the same environment but outside the gardens where it had been taking place.
The move breaks with the dynamic initiated in 2019, when Ludivers began to be held in the Devesa gardens. Before that stage, between 2014 and 2018, the festival had occupied different spaces in Barri Vell and Mercadal. In 2020 it was not held due to the pandemic.
New dates to avoid coincidences
This year's edition also changes its calendar. The festival will be held from May 22 to 24, when in recent editions it had taken place on the first weekend of May. The adjustment responds to the desire to avoid coinciding with the May 1 holiday, which this year falls on a Friday, and also with Temps de Flors, scheduled between May 9 and 17.
The City Council organizes Ludivers through the Barri Vell–Mercadal Civic Center and the Ludus Mundi entity, with the participation of associations and entities from the territory, in addition to private agents. The complete program and the rest of the novelties of this edition will be announced soon at a press conference.
