The educational community of the Institut Montgrí of Torroella de Montgrí has denounced that several students of the center were harassed, offended and expelled in a humiliating manner by people located at a stand of Aliança Catalana during the morning of Sant Jordi in the municipality.

Among the reported insults are expressions such as "all immigrants have to leave here" and "Moors, blacks, yellows... you can leave here now, go!". The episode has generated discomfort in the educational environment and also in the local political sphere, awaiting the city council to set a joint position.

Children under twelve years old among those affected

The mayor of Torroella de Montgrí, Jordi Colomí, has explained that from the educational center they confirmed to them that the affected ones were under twelve years old and that they felt accosted during that episode. The public complaint of the educational community places the events in full Sant Jordi activity, in a space of great influx of residents and visitors.

"From the center they confirmed to us that those affected were under twelve years old who felt challenged" - Jordi Colomí, mayor of Torroella de Montgrí

The City Council seeks a joint response

The Torroella de Montgrí City Council has called for a meeting of spokespersons with all parties for Monday afternoon with the aim of reaching a consensus on a joint statement about what happened. The municipal government wants to give a shared response to events that have had a special impact due to the age of the students indicated.

Colomí has also indicated that, with the information available until now, the majority of the people linked to the stop were from outside Torroella de Montgrí. The mayor has avoided going further while what happened and the scope of the incident reported by the institute are finished being evaluated.

"It worries me that facts like this generate tension where there isn't any" - Jordi Colomí, mayor of Torroella de Montgrí

The council hopes that Monday's meeting will allow to set a shared institutional position in a municipality where the complaint has caused an immediate reaction due to the treatment received by the minors during a day marked as Sant Jordi's.
