The Prosecutor's Office requests 13 years in prison for a man accused of setting fire to a home in Mollerussa in the early hours of January 19, 2025, in an apartment where another person was inside. The trial is scheduled for May 5 at the Audiencia de Lleida.
The Public Prosecutor's Office's document places the events around six in the morning. The prosecution maintains that the defendant applied a direct flame on combustible material that was in the home and that he did so being aware that his flatmate was inside the dwelling.
The accusation maintains that the fire endangered the other tenant
Always according to the Prosecutor's Office, the fire generated in the property endangered the other man, who woke up due to the smoke without the accused warning him. The victim managed to get out on his own, although he suffered smoke inhalation poisoning that required medical attention.
The fire caused damage in about 50 square meters of the dwelling, which was owned by a company. The Public Prosecutor's Office attributes to the accused a crime of arson and another of aggravated injuries.
Request for a restraining order and possible expulsion from the country
In addition to the prison sentence, the Prosecutor's Office requests the prohibition from approaching within 200 meters of the victim for eight years, as well as the prohibition from communicating with her during the same period.
The prosecutor also proposes to substitute the prison sentence with expulsion from the country and the prohibition of returning to the State for seven years. In terms of civil liability, he demands that the accused compensate the other man with 105 euros for the seven days it took him to recover from smoke intoxication.
Following these events, the court of Lleida ordered the provisional entry into prison of the accused. It will be the Audiencia de Lleida that will now judge some events that, according to the public prosecution, occurred inside a shared domicile in the capital of Pla d Urgell.
