The elimination of the level crossing on Comerç street, at the intersection with railway line 270, remains without a definitive award eleven months after the work was put out to tender in July 2025 for an approximate amount of 12 million euros.
The delay keeps blocked an action planned precisely to improve safety and road connection within the urban center. The crossing, located at kilometer point 221/740 between the Cervera border and the Aragó junction, is a historic demand of the municipality.
Junts asks in the Senate about eleven months without an award
Joan Bagué, senator for Junts per Catalunya, has registered a question in the Senate to demand that the Spanish Government detail the specific reasons why the award remains pending almost a year after the process began.
The work was to resolve one of the sensitive points of the local road network with the elimination of the current level crossing, located on Comerç street, in the section of the C-255z road owned by the autonomous community.
The project foresees two underpasses and a cost-sharing among three administrations
The action will replace the railway crossing with two underpasses, one for vehicles and another for pedestrians. The objective is to remove the level crossing and organize mobility at this point in the municipality.
The agreement that regulates the intervention divides the cost between Adif, the Generalitat de Catalunya, and the city council. Adif will assume 62.5% of the budget and the Generalitat will contribute 37.5%, around 4.4 million euros, while the council will cede the necessary land, valued at around one million euros.
When the tender was announced, the Minister of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, Sílvia Paneque, maintained that the work represented an "important milestone for the regions of Girona" and argued that it should improve "mobility, safety, and integration into the urban environment".
The project affects the level crossing at kilometer point 221/740 of line 270, between the Cervera border and the Aragó junction, at the intersection of the railway line with Comerç street.
