The vote of the teaching staff of Catalonia puts 5,000 new professorships at stake against an indefinite strike

The unions USTEC, CGT, Intersindical and COS will submit the pre-agreement reached with the Departament d'Educació to a consultation of the teaching staff, in a vote that will start on Monday at 12:00 PM and will close on Thursday at the same time through corporate email, with a single response per teacher.

The consultation comes with an open division among the organizing bodies. USTEC asks to endorse the agreement, but proposes an indefinite strike starting June 8 if the staff rejects it, while CGT, Intersindical and COS advocate voting against it and maintaining the mobilizations planned for next week.

Unions suspend four territorial days while the consultation lasts

The majority organizations of public education have put on hold the territorial strikes planned between Monday and Thursday so as not to overlap them with the vote. The calendar included stoppages in the central regions and Girona on Monday, in Barcelonès on Tuesday, in Tarragona and les Terres de l'Ebre on Wednesday, and in Lleida, l'Alt Pirineu and Aran on Thursday.

In addition, the Professors de Secundària union has opened its own consultation among its members to decide whether to support the preliminary agreement.

On Friday, however, the last strike of the cycle that began in May and June remains scheduled. Of the 18 days of strike called, 13 have already taken place.

The pre-agreement raises the new supplement by 50 euros and foresees 5,000 professorships

The proposal incorporates 50 euros more than the previous offer for a newly created supplement aimed at all teaching staff. In four years, that bonus would reach 173 euros.

Educació links this improvement to the 30% increase in the specific supplement agreed in March with CCOO and UGT and to state salary increases. The sum of these concepts would place the increase at around 600 euros gross per month for teachers at the end of that period.

Along with the salary, the text includes the recovery of the debt of the six-year periods in five years. The objective is to compensate for the amounts not received during the period of cuts, when payment went from six to nine years.

It also includes the call for 5,000 professorships for secondary school teachers in two academic years. The planned distribution is 2,500 positions next year and another 2,500 the following year.

Inclusive education adds 6,413 provisions until the 2029-2030 academic year

The pre-agreement reserves another part of the measures for inclusive education. For the next academic year, it foresees 1,088 support provisions.

Afterwards, 1,651 allocations would arrive in the 2027-2028 period and 2,023 in 2029-2030. The total forecast reaches 6,413 support positions within the committed deployment.

The consultation with the teaching staff will remain open from Monday at 12:00 PM to Thursday at 12:00 PM, with a single response allowed per worker via corporate email.
