Ustec-STEs has called off the territorial strikes planned for next week to allow time for the consultation in which teachers will vote on the pre-agreement reached on Friday with the Departament d'Educació. The vote will open on Monday at 12:00 PM and close on Thursday at the same time.
The partial suspension of protests coexists, however, with an still open calendar of mobilizations. Ustec maintains the general strike on Friday, June 5, and a demonstration in Barcelona, while CGT and Intersindical will continue with the territorial strikes, considering the economic and organizational offer made by the Administration insufficient.
The consultation halts Ustec and Aspepc strikes for four days
The majority union has justified the cancellation by the need to guarantee social peace during the four days in which educational centers will have to vote on the agreement. Aspepc, the secondary school union, has also suspended its mobilizations during the same period.
Ustec defended in a statement that the agreement incorporates relevant improvements after weeks of union pressure.
"The agreement with the Departament d'Educació represents very important advances, achieved thanks to the mobilization and the capacity for pressure and struggle of the collective" - Ustec-STEs, union statement
The staff's approval will be decisive for the next step. If the pre-agreement does not receive sufficient support, the union has already warned that it may reactivate protests from Monday, June 8.
CGT and Intersindical maintain strikes in Girona, Barcelona, Tarragona and Lleida
In contrast to this pause, CGT and Intersindical maintain the calendar of territorial strikes. On Monday, they call for strikes in Girona and central Catalonia, on Tuesday, June 2, in the Consorci d'Educació de Barcelona and metropolitan cities, on Wednesday in Tarragona and les Terres de l'Ebre, and on Thursday, June 4, in Lleida and l'Alt Pirineu i Aran.
Laura Gené, spokesperson for CGT, placed the disagreement in the content of the agreement and not only in the salary amount.
"The proposal does not foresee issues that our union considers minimal, very minimal, such as the definition of what resources are allocated to inclusive education or what happens with ratios" - Laura Gené, spokesperson for CGT
The position of CGT and Intersindical also involves the new formulation of the bonus. Both organizations maintain that the improvement compared to the previous offer is 50 euros and that this bonus would reach 173 euros in four years.
Niubó is confident of a yes and the pact raises monthly remuneration between 599.50 and 633.58 euros
The Minister of Education, Esther Niubó, has expressed her confidence in a favorable vote from the teaching staff. Niubó maintained that the new salary conditions will place primary and secondary school teachers among the best paid in Spain.
The preliminary agreement includes an average salary increase of 450 euros per month and the recovery of the six-year periods lost during the cuts. In addition, the Administration has agreed to repay the debt accumulated for this concept in five years.
On the part that depends on the Generalitat de Catalunya, the sum of the new bonus and the 30% increase in the specific bonus agreed in March with CCOO and UGT will entail an increase of 384 euros for primary school teachers and 389.50 euros for secondary school teachers.
With the state increases for civil servants, the total monthly improvement foreseen in four years will be between 599.50 and 633.58 euros.
