The unions set the strike follow-up at 70% in Catalonia, but the Government only counts teachers

The Government sets the strike follow-up at 34.7%, compared to 70% for USTEC-STEs. The difference lies in excluding cleaning and kitchen staff from the official count and in not offering data by territories.

The strike called this Tuesday in Catalan education had a follow-through of 34.7% in Catalonia as a whole among teaching and non-teaching staff in public centers and other services of the Departament d'Educació. The official data was compiled with information sent by 91.2% of the centers at five in the afternoon.

The main discrepancy of the day is in the real scope of the strike. While the Departament d'Educació places the follow-up at 34.7%, the USTEC-STEs union raises it to 70% in all of Catalonia and 65% in the Girona regions, a comparison that the Government cannot verify by territory because it does not have figures broken down by demarcations.

Education closed the balance with data from 91.2% of the centers

The official count includes teaching and non-teaching staff from public educational centers and also other services of the Departament d'Educació, both territorial and central. Therefore, workers from centers of other ownerships and cleaning, kitchen, and monitoring staff are excluded.

That difference in perimeter conditions the reading of the day. The percentage of 34.7% does not measure all the personnel affected by the call, but only those groups on which the educational administration collects data.

USTEC-STEs placed the strike at 70% in Catalonia and 65% in Girona

Faced with the Department's assessment, USTEC-STEs defended a much higher participation in the strike. The union set the follow-through at 70% in Catalonia as a whole and also specified 65% in the regions of Girona.

The Department of Education did not offer official figures by territorial demarcations during the afternoon, so there is no public data from the administration to compare with that union estimate in Girona, Barcelona, Lleida or Tarragona.

In addition to the public network, this Tuesday's call also affected staff from centers of other ownerships and services such as cleaning, kitchen, and monitoring, areas for which the Departament d'Educació does not collect tracking data.
