The University of Girona plans to offer the Pharmacy degree starting from the 2027/2028 academic year. The announcement was made this Thursday by the rector, Josep Calbó, during an event at the Les Àligues building, headquarters of the rectorate, in Girona's Barri Vell.

Calbó, elected rector last November 27, placed this future degree as one of the main academic novelties of the UdG in the medium term. The university has already approved the degree's report, although the process still must overcome a decisive step before its implementation.

Pending the quality endorsement

The report of the new degree must now receive the approval of the University Quality Agency, a necessary endorsement for the implementation to proceed. The UdG's forecast is for Pharmacy to start in the 2027/2028 academic year, provided that the pending procedures are completed.

The rector explained that the Col·legi de Farmacèutics de Catalunya had conveyed to the Government the need to have more people trained in this field. That context, he pointed out, has contributed to promoting the creation of these studies in Girona.

Without new degrees in the short term

In his appearance, Calbó also ruled out that the university will implement new degree programs in the short term beyond this forecast. The incorporation of Pharmacy is proposed, therefore, as the main immediate teaching growth movement within the UdG's offer.

It was also her first act before the media since she acceded to the rectorship. In the appearance she presented the vice-rectorship team, the manager Anna Ribas and the general secretary Susana Oromí.

More space next to the Barri Vell

The lack of space in the historical surroundings of the university marked another of the lines of the event. The UdG will allocate part of the Butinyanes convent to administrative and research uses, in a move designed to alleviate the pressure on facilities in this area close to the institution.

Within that reorganization strategy, the university has purchased eight buildings with a total area of 2,700 square meters for 2.2 million euros. The operation seeks to gain margin for university services in an area where space availability has been limited for some time.

With this horizon, the UdG opens two fronts for the next courses, the incorporation of Pharmacy if it overcomes the pending procedures and the expansion of spaces to decongest the Barri Vell, one of the neuralgic points of university activity in Girona.
