The new oncohematological day hospital of the Institut Català d'Oncologia at the Doctor Josep Trueta University Hospital in Girona will become operational on Monday as a reference center for more than 800,000 inhabitants of the Girona Health Region and for most hospitals in the demarcation.
The opening comes after the ICO Girona day hospital administered a total of 26,658 treatments to 2,978 patients during 2025, a care load that until now was handled without the new equipment that the Government announced this Thursday.
The new building adds 36 care points on the first floor
The service will occupy the first floor of a new care building of nearly 500 square meters spread over two floors. The expansion of the Trueta surgical block will also be located in the same building.
The new facilities have 36 care points. The space is distributed into 16 individual boxes, 14 treatment chairs, and six individual rooms with beds.
In addition, the area incorporates two nursing consultations and reserves spaces for the Oncology Continuous Care Unit, the Hematology Office, and the Clinical Research Unit.
