The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested on May 21 in Vilafant a 45-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man as alleged perpetrators of a crime against public health and another of electricity fraud, after locating a marijuana plantation in a two-story house.
The intervention uncovered an installation that combined production and fraud. During the search, officers found 210 plants and 4.5 kilograms of dried buds valued at 8,240 euros, while workers from the electricity company dismantled an illegal connection that supplied the plantation without passing through the meter.
The house hid 210 plants and 4.5 kilos of dried buds
During the entry into the property, officers found the usual equipment to keep the plantation running. There were ten lighting panels, three fans, an air conditioning unit with a compressor, an extractor, a carbon filter, and a precision scale.
The search allowed for the seizure of both marijuana in the cultivation phase and that already prepared for possible distribution. The value of the 4.5 kilograms of dried buds amounts to 8,240 euros, according to estimates from the National Central Office for Narcotics of the Ministry of the Interior.
The illegal connection entered through the porch and went up to a false ceiling
In addition to the cultivation, the police action detected a fraudulent electricity diversion in the house. Workers from the electricity company dismantled it after verifying that the line entered through the porch and went to a false ceiling from which energy was supplied directly to the plantation.
That system avoided the electricity passing through the meter. The investigation therefore attributes to the two arrested individuals also an alleged crime of electricity fraud.
One day after the arrest, the two arrested individuals were brought before the judicial authorities on May 22 at the on-duty investigating court of Figueres. The arrested woman had a criminal record, while the man did not.
