The Girona City Council has once again placed itself among the ten best-rated Catalan municipalities of over 50,000 inhabitants in digital administration in the eleventh edition of the Open Administration Awards. The recognition distinguishes the digital transformation and open government policies of the council.

The city thus continues for more than a decade among the most outstanding local administrations in Catalonia in this area and, in addition to remaining in the Top 10, has already led the ranking on several occasions. Reus, Mataró, Terrassa, and Lleida also appear in the same category.

The index places Girona among the top ten municipalities again

The awards are granted based on the Digital Maturity Index, the methodology of the Consortium of Open Administration of Catalonia that evaluates the evolution of city councils in electronic administration. The system measures the degree of development of digital services and tools linked to open government.

In Girona's case, this continuity places it again among the reference councils in municipalities of over 50,000 inhabitants. The classification, shared with cities such as Reus, Mataró, Terrassa, and Lleida, reinforces the comparison with other large Catalan city councils.

M. Àngels Planas links the recognition to the work of several municipal services

M. Àngels Planas, councilor for Contracting, Heritage, and IT Services, framed the award within the sustained work of the entire local administration.

"It highlights the constant and rigorous work of the entire City Council to move towards a more agile, modern, and citizen-friendly administration" - M. Àngels Planas, councilor for Contracting, Heritage, and IT Services, Girona City Council

The councilor added that digital transformation is not limited to incorporating technology, but rather involves improving citizen services with greater transparency, efficiency, and quality. The city council relates the result to a cross-cutting action of its municipal services.

Among the teams highlighted by the council are the Information Systems and Technologies Service and the Document Management, Archives, and Publications Service. Both are identified as central pieces in a trajectory that has kept Girona among the best-positioned Catalan administrations in digitalization and open government for more than ten years.
