The Girona City Council will request judicial authorization to activate a police operation to evict the occupants of the former Simon factory, the building intended to house the future Ermessenda secondary school. The deadline for them to voluntarily vacate the property expires today.

The council is taking this step after the agreements approved in the plenary session and the publication in the BOE, but the building remains occupied, which is blocking the schedule for an educational facility already committed to the city. The operation will likely involve personnel from the Municipal Police and the Mossos d'Esquadra.

The court could authorize the eviction at the end of June

The intervention will be carried out once the city council verifies that the people inside have not left the premises after the voluntary deadline has passed. From that moment on, the municipal government will request judicial permission to enter the former factory.

Sergi Font, deputy mayor of Girona for Guanyem, and Lluís Martí, councilor for Proximity Urbanism for Junts, place the possible arrival of that authorization at the end of June. The municipal plan is to then coordinate the operation with the police forces participating in the action.

The transfer of the plot will advance once the pending urbanization is completed

In parallel to the procedure to recover the building, the city council is processing the urbanization and replotting of the land. This step is a prerequisite for the transfer of the space to the government, which will have to assume the next phase of the action.

Once it has possession of the property, the administration plans to board up the entrances and remove the accumulated water in the basement. It then wants to accelerate the project for the new Ermessenda institute, which is set to occupy the former Simon factory.

The City Council and the government also maintain an already drafted agreement to manage the space once the transfer is completed. The final deadline to avoid eviction without police intervention expires today with the voluntary departure of the occupants.
