The Mossos d'Esquadra Investigation Unit is investigating a series of nine robberies and attempted thefts of cash registers committed in commercial establishments in Vilablareix and Girona. The agents are analyzing whether there is a direct link between all the episodes, given that they share an identical modus operandi based on forced access to the premises.
Three attacks against a bakery in fifteen days
A bakery located next to the Santa Coloma road in Vilablareix has become the recurring target of criminals. The premises have registered three different incidents in a period of less than three weeks, which shows an unusual insistence on the part of the perpetrators.
Three criminal episodes affected the same business between mid-April and the end of April.
The first attempt took place on April 14. The perpetrators caused damage to the establishment's glass but fled without taking anything after a neighbor discovered them. Five days later, on April 19, they managed to consummate the robbery and stole the cash register, which was found abandoned the following day on a public street in the municipality.
The situation repeated itself on April 30th around four in the morning. On this occasion, the intruders once again caused damage to the bakery's glass before acting. On that same day, a bakery located inside a supermarket in the Salt square of Girona also suffered a robbery with similar characteristics.
The pattern extends to other local businesses
The criminal activity was not limited to the establishments mentioned. On May 3, between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM, the perpetrators acted against a bar located on Puigmal street in Vilablareix. The methodology consisted of forcing access to the interior to seize the cash register, replicating the strategy used in previous cases.
The Mossos d'Esquadra have officially confirmed nine cases that fit this dynamic. The investigation remains open with the objective of identifying the material perpetrators of the acts. Investigators do not rule out that behind this wave of robberies there is an organized group, although this extreme will have to be proven through police investigations.
The Investigation Unit is currently working to determine if all the facts are related to each other or if there are partial connections between the different affected municipalities. The priority is to establish a common profile that will allow for the swift apprehension of the suspects.
The provisional balance amounts to nine confirmed performances by the Catalan police.
