The storms this Tuesday forced Protecció Civil to activate the Inuncat alert due to the possibility of more than 20 liters per square meter falling in half an hour in a large part of Catalonia. During the afternoon, the Bombers de la Generalitat carried out 56 interventions between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, while the 112 telephone received 215 calls for 93 incidents until 7:00 PM.

The episode left a double incidence on the territory. While most of the urban alerts responded to small floods and falling branches, in Ponent the hail once again hit agricultural exploitations in full campaign and added the third episode of these characteristics in the season.

The Firefighters Concentrated 35 Departures in the Metropolitan Regions in Four Hours

Emergency activity accelerated in the final stretch of the afternoon. Of the 56 interventions by the Bombers de la Generalitat, 26 arrived in the last hour and a half.

The territorial distribution placed the largest volume of services in the northern metropolitan region, with 20, and in the southern one, with 15. The teams also attended nine calls in the central area, another nine in the Girona region, two in the Tarragona region, and one in the Lleida region.

Most of the actions were linked to minor flooding and falling branches in various locations affected by the storm. Additionally, teams deployed preventive crews to Montserrat to assist any hikers in distress.

In parallel, the Servei Català de Trànsit keeps the B-112 closed between Collbató, in Baix Llobregat, and the Montserrat cable car due to landslides.

The severe weather warning was extended to Ripollès and Garrotxa

The Meteorological Service of Catalonia issued a severe weather warning for the regions of Ripollès and Garrotxa. The forecast pointed to large hail, strong gusts of wind, downbursts, tornadoes or waterspouts.

Until 7:00 PM, the 112 had registered 215 calls related to 93 incidents. The largest number of notices was concentrated in Vallès Oriental.

Hail reached farms in eight municipalities of Ponent without protection nets

Further west, the Associació de Defensa Vegetal de les Terres de Ponent confirmed hail damage the size of a hazelnut on farms that did not have anti-hail nets. The damage was spread across Soses, Torres de Segre, Puigverd de Lleida, Artesa de Lleida, Miralcamp, el Palau d'Anglesola, Juneda, and Bovera.

The territorial scope was greater than in previous episodes of the same campaign. This is the third hail episode of the campaign, with affectation in several municipalities more extensively than on previous occasions.

The agricultural incident was located in farms in Soses, Torres de Segre, Puigverd de Lleida, Artesa de Lleida, Miralcamp, el Palau d'Anglesola, Juneda and Bovera, where the hail fell the size of a hazelnut in plots without anti-hail nets.
