The Government will approve this Tuesday the declaration of the future Health Campus of Salt and Girona as a project of general interest, a step with which it intends to accelerate the processing of the new Doctor Josep Trueta University Hospital of Girona and the rest of the health complex planned between both municipalities.
The decision comes while the project remains pending key procedures and the economic and financial plan that must define how an action valued at 740 million euros will be paid for. The Generalitat now wants to give "absolute political and institutional priority" to an infrastructure that still has two years of technical drafting ahead.
The Government wants to shorten procedures while the project enters the drafting phase
Albert Dalmau, Minister of the Presidency, argued that the declaration of general interest must serve to "remove bureaucratic obstacles" and accelerate the processing of the new Trueta. The objective, he maintained, is for the Girona project to advance "as soon as possible".
The measure seeks to particularly streamline urban planning and energy procedures. This includes connection permits and access capacity to the state electricity grid, two necessary steps to deploy the future health campus between Salt and Girona.
At the same time, Infraestructures.cat has already definitively awarded the architectural project of the Health Campus of the Girona Health Region to the UTE formed by PINEARQ, Brullet de Luna and associates and PEGI Engineering.
That team will have two years to draft the preliminary project and the basic and executive projects of the complex. That technical phase will determine how the different health, university, and business uses planned for the site will be organized.
The future campus will occupy 175,000 square meters between Salt and Girona
The complex will be built on land located between Girona and Salt, with a total area of 175,000 square meters. Of that total, 130,000 square meters are already classified as equipment, a key condition for fitting in the planned urban operation.
In addition to the new Doctor Josep Trueta University Hospital of Girona, the campus will incorporate teaching, research, and innovation spaces promoted by the University of Girona. The plan also reserves space for a hub of health companies linked to care and academic activity.
The Generalitat includes this project among the actions it wants to give preferential impetus to, along with the future Campus of Health Clínic-University of Barcelona. In the Girona case, the planned investment amounts to 740 million euros and the Department of Economy is still preparing the economic and financial plan that must analyze the financing alternatives.
The architectural award now sets the following immediate schedule, because the UTE formed by PINEARQ, Brullet de Luna and associates and PEGI Engineering will have two years to draft the preliminary project and the basic and executive projects for the new Campus of Health.
