Almost one in three families that have requested a place in the municipal nursery schools and in the centers of the Generalitat de Catalunya in Girona will be left out next school year. The provisional assessment by the Girona City Council includes 587 applications for 396 places in groups I0, I1, and I2.

The tension is concentrated in a network that does not cover demand despite two centers having vacancies. The system only absorbs 67.5% of the requests, leaving 191 without a place, while 354 families with 30 points will have to go to a draw on June 2 to resolve ties.

Group I1 concentrates 313 applications for 220 places

The greatest pressure appears in I1, aimed at children born in 2025, with 313 applications for 220 places. I2, for children born in 2024, also clearly exceeds the offer, registering 222 requests for 148 places.

In I0, for children born in 2026, the difference is also unfavorable for families. In that group, there are 52 applications for 28 places.

By centers, El Tarlà, dependent on the Generalitat de Catalunya and located in Can Gibert del Pla, is the one that bears the most pressure. It has received 121 applications for 52 places.

La Devesa, with 97 applications for 50 places, and Garbí, with 68 for 38, also stand out. In La Devesa, demand is concentrated mainly in I1, while in Garbí the excess of requests affects all groups.

El Tren has 62 applications for 36 places and presents the greatest imbalance in I2. Baldufa has 77 applications for 54 places, with the highest pressure in I1 and a surplus in I0.

L'Olivera exhausts I0 and two schools maintain vacancies

L'Olivera has received 75 applications for 60 places. In its case, there are no places left in I0, and demand also exceeds the offer in I1 and I2.

In Montjuïc, the Sant Ramon Nonat center, of the Generalitat de Catalunya, presents a more balanced situation, with 38 applications for 36 places. At the same time, the municipal nursery schools Cavall Fort and El Pont are the only ones with more available places than applications.

This unequal distribution leaves part of the demand out, even though not all centers are saturated in the same way. The draw scheduled for June 2 will serve to rank the 354 families who have obtained 30 points in the provisional assessment.

The Girona City Council plans to open a new nursery school in the city center with between 60 and 70 places.
