The Government will approve next Tuesday the declaration of general interest for the future Clínic-UB Health Campus and for the Health Campus of the Girona Health Region, two of the main health infrastructures planned in Barcelona and Girona.
The decision comes with a double move. While the executive wants to accelerate urban planning and energy procedures for both projects, it will also close in the same meeting the de-allocation of the Universitat de Barcelona's land on Diagonal Avenue, a necessary step for the Generalitat de Catalunya to purchase it for 135.25 million euros.
The Government buys the UB's land on Diagonal for 135.25 million
Albert Dalmau, Minister of the Presidency, stated in a post on X that the objective of the declaration of general interest is to give "absolute political and institutional priority" to the two infrastructures to remove bureaucratic obstacles and speed up their processing.
In Barcelona, Tuesday's agreement will allow the de-allocation of the UB's land on Diagonal Avenue to be ratified. From that procedure, the Generalitat de Catalunya will be able to acquire it to develop the future Clínic-UB Health Campus.
The project has its inauguration set for 2035. The forecast is for a global investment of 1.7 billion euros and a complex of 300,000 square meters that will integrate the new hospital and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the UB.
Within this operation, the Generalitat will acquire the land for 135.25 million euros, one of the key pieces to unblock the implementation of the new health and university complex in Barcelona.
Girona awarded the design of the new campus between Salt and Girona
In parallel, the Government will include in the same declaration of general interest the Health Campus of the Girona Health Region, whose processing is already advancing with the final award of the architectural project.
The drafting has been entrusted to the UTE Pinearq, SLP & Brullet de Luna i associats i SLP&PEGI Engineering, SL. The winning team has two years to prepare the preliminary, basic, and executive projects for the complex.
The new campus will be built on land located between Salt and Girona. The area covers 175,000 square meters of land, of which 130,000 are already classified as facilities.
The project will incorporate the new Doctor Josep Trueta University Hospital of Girona along with teaching, research, and innovation spaces promoted by the University of Girona.
For the Girona complex, the planned investment amounts to 740 million euros and the architectural commission contemplates a period of two years to have the preliminary project and the basic and executive projects drafted.
