The Amics de la Gent Gran Foundation has strengthened its presence in Girona with a bi-weekly in-person support point at the CCC Girona La Rutlla to detect and support cases of unwanted loneliness among the elderly in the region. The organization, which has been working in this field for 39 years, has been active in the city for almost a decade.
The expansion comes with a dual magnitude. Last year, the foundation supported 2,310 elderly people in eight provinces with the help of 2,279 volunteers, a figure that shows an almost equivalent ratio between accompanied individuals and the support network to maintain stable relationships and continuous follow-up.
Girona incorporated a bi-weekly point at CCC La Rutlla
Since the end of 2025, the organization has been part of the associative fabric of the CCC Girona La Rutlla. The foundation's office at this facility offers in-person support twice a month, on Tuesdays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
This space serves to coordinate volunteers and support elderly people in the region who need assistance. It also channels notifications about vulnerable situations and manages new registrations of both members and donors.
In Girona, the foundation's work is based on a model of continuous support. The intervention combines weekly in-person visits of about two hours with collective socialization activities.
Weekly support is complemented by outings and celebrations
The organization organizes monthly gatherings that include outings, cultural activities, and shared celebrations. These include Saint George's Day, Saint John's Day, and Christmas, with the aim of maintaining social contact beyond individual visits.
In its overall activity, the foundation had 5,555 members and donors last year. This support base sustains the accompaniment of the elderly in the eight provinces where it operates.
