Spar Girona closed the season with qualification for the Final-6 of the EuroLeague in Zaragoza, a result that confirms their return to the continental elite, but they did not manage to transfer that performance to the Lliga Femenina or the Cup. Roberto Íñiguez's team was left out of the league final for the first time since 2019 and fell in the quarterfinals of the tournament held in Tarragona.
Therein lies the main contradiction of the course. The Girona team signed a top-tier European trajectory, with five wins and one loss in the first phase and an 8-4 in the second, after a start of 22 wins in their first 24 games, but ended the year without a presence in the final of the state competition.
Spar Girona signed its best European run with a 13-5 overall
The team's campaign gained weight especially in the EuroLeague. Under the direction of Roberto Íñiguez, Spar Girona overcame Venice in the quarterfinals and reached the Final-6 in Zaragoza, a step that consolidates its return to the top of European basketball.
The run, however, also had a clear limit. Fenerbahçe, reinforced with Breanna Stewart, eliminated the Catalan team both in the play-in and in the semifinals.
For a good part of the season, the team maintained a high pace in several competitions. Between the Catalan League, the EuroLeague, and the Women's League, they strung together 22 victories in the first 24 games, a sequence that fueled the expectation of fighting for all titles until the end.
The injuries reduced the rotation in the decisive stretch of the season
The squad reached the end of the season with less margin than expected. The absences of Chloe Bibby, Marta Canella, and Carter conditioned the team's depth in the key months.
To that limitation were added forced movements during the course. Axelle Merceron joined later, coming from Gran Canaria, and the club resorted to the temporary signing of Laeticia Amihere to cover part of those needs.
In parallel, national results lagged behind European production. In the Cup held in Tarragona, Spar Girona fell in the quarterfinals against Perfumerías Avenida.
Afterwards, in the Women's League, Casademont Zaragoza finished ahead in the regular standings. In the playoff for the title, the Girona team lost the semifinals by a single basket and was once again left out of the final, something that had not happened since 2019.
The club studies changes to the squad while awaiting several decisions
With the course now closed, the planning of the next project has begun to move. The club maintains interest in Yiana Martín, considered the best national player in the Lliga Femenina, although the operation is not yet closed.
There are also pieces with an open future. Holm has received an offer from the Navy, where Alba Torrens plays, and Jocyte could join the Project-B competition linked to Breanna Stewart.
At the base of the next block, Spar Girona foresees the continuity of Guerrero, Ainhoa, Merceron and probably Quevedo, while the sports management studies the renewal of Coulibaly.
