A total of 175 people donated blood during the last weekend of Temps de Flors in Plaça 1 d'Octubre in Girona, in a two-day campaign organized by the Blood and Tissue Bank. Before the collection began, the organization had registered 199 offers of participation.
The difference between prior interest and the final result was small, and the campaign also yielded a less common statistic for this type of event. Up to 55 people donated blood for the first time, within a call that also added six new bone marrow donors.
The campaign gathered 199 pre-registrations and closed with 175 donations
The collection was set up in Plaça 1 d'Octubre during the last two days of Temps de Flors, one of the busiest weekends in Girona. The Blood and Tissue Bank concentrated a campaign there that was already starting with 199 registered offers of participation.
Finally, 175 people came to donate. Among them, 55 were first-time donors, a figure that added weight to the participant turnover in a campaign held in the city center.
Six people also registered as bone marrow donors
The event was not limited to blood donation. The organization also registered six people as bone marrow donors during the same weekend.
From the setup, Joan Fernández Cuenca explained that the campaign took place in a contained atmosphere of activity and gratitude towards the participants.
"I had wanted to do it for years, so when I found out last night from a friend who came, I already knew what I had to do" - Laura Cárdenas, first-time donor
Laura Cárdenas was part of the group of 55 people who donated for the first time in Plaça 1 d'Octubre. The organization, in the words of Joan Fernández Cuenca, described the day as "very calm, but grateful."
