Girona will host part of the filming of the new Tomb Raider series for Amazon Prime Video in June, starring Sophie Turner, with recordings planned in Plaça del Vi, the surroundings of the cathedral, and Carrer de Santa Clara. The setup has already begun at this last point, while the parking lot on Carrer de la Font de l'Abat, next to Ocine, functions as the production's logistics center.
The arrival of the filming coincides with a visible deployment in the city center and the Barri Vell, but also with a change in schedule. The production had planned to start in April and will finally do so in June, a delay that points to a possible injury of the actress in March.
Filming will cut off Santa Clara and limit access to the cathedral
Since this Tuesday, crews have begun installing structures on a section of Carrer de Santa Clara. In parallel, about fifteen caravans and a production and catering tent have been set up in the parking lot on Carrer de la Font de l'Abat.
Road traffic will be interrupted on Carrer de Santa Clara on June 6 between 6:00 AM and 11:00 PM, in the section between Casa de l'Aigua and Carrer Nou. Pedestrian traffic and access to shops will be maintained, although there may be occasional interruptions.
In the cathedral area, filming will take place on Friday, June 5, from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and on Saturday, June 6, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. On Thursday, June 4, occasional interruptions may also occur due to setup work.
During Friday, pedestrian circulation will be restricted except for residents and workers in Carrer de la Força, Plaça de la Catedral, Carrer de Manuel Cúndaro, Carrer de la Claveria, and Plaça dels Lledoners.
The following day, the limitation will be more limited and will affect Carrer de Manel Cúndaro and its access from the cathedral stairs or from Carrer de la Claveria.
Plaça del Vi will concentrate the last disruptions between June 6 and 7
The third major filming location will be Plaça del Vi. There, disruptions will be concentrated on Saturday, June 6, between 3:00 PM and 11:00 PM, and on Sunday, June 7, between 6:00 AM and 11:00 PM.
During these periods, traffic closures will affect Carrer de l'Albareda, Carrer dels Abeuradors, Carrer de Ciutadans, and Rambla de la Llibertat. The operation will thus affect two of the busiest areas in the center, between the Barri Vell and the institutional axis of the City Hall.
While these restrictions last, the Ajuntament de Girona has enabled parking in Josep Ferrater i Mora square for the residents of Barri Vell between June 4 and 6.
In addition to the logistical and traffic arrangements, the production's forecast includes the presence of Sophie Turner in the city in the coming days to participate in some of the scenes.
