The Truffaut cinema in Girona faces a possible change of management after 25 years under the direction of the Col·lectiu de Crítics, the non-profit association that has been in charge of this cultural facility in the city during the last quarter century. Unease among part of the public has grown given the possibility that a company from Cambrils has won the tender to take over the operation of the venue.

Concern among regular viewers

The main concern of some clients passes through the programming model that may be implemented from now on. Among the regular users of the Truffaut there exists the fear that the cinema leaves behind the line that it has maintained for years and orient itself towards a more commercial offer.

The Critics' Collective has managed the Truffaut cinema for the last 25 years, a period in which the venue has consolidated itself as one of the reference cultural spaces in Girona for a good part of its loyal audience.

Uncertainty over the future of the cultural project

The possibility that the new award falls to a company from Cambrils has opened a debate among spectators and users about the future of cinema and about the fit of its programming within Girona's cultural offer.

Clients fear a shift towards more commercial programming, an option that for part of the public could alter the identity that has characterized the Truffaut during these decades.

"We have to defend these spaces, because cinema is life and freedom of expression is indispensable" - Eduard, user

The debate remains very present among those who frequent the venue and see in the Truffaut much more than a cinema, at a time when the possible new stage opens questions about the continuity of the cultural model that has defined this space in Girona.
