The regions of Girona closed the first quarter of 2026 with 683 new commercial companies, 201 more than in the same period of the previous year. The increase reaches 41.7%, according to data from the National Statistics Institute.
The rebound in the number of companies coexists, however, with a drop in the money invested to start them up. The capital subscribed between January and March stood at 17.05 million euros, 51.7% less than the 35.3 million from the first quarter of 2025.
March added 245 companies and surpassed last year's by 82
March was the month with the most activity in the demarcation, with 245 new companies. February registered 232 and January, 206.
In the year-on-year comparison, March also concentrated the biggest jump. During that month, Girona gained 82 more companies than in March 2025, when 163 had been established, which is equivalent to an increase of 50.3%.
The quarterly evolution thus leaves a sustained pace of company creation in the counties of Girona, with figures above those of the start of last year in the entire period analyzed.
Dissolutions rose by 16% and January concentrated 148 closures
At the same time, between January and March, 261 companies were dissolved in the demarcation of Girona. That is 36 more than in the same period of 2025, with an increase of 16%.
January concentrated the majority of closures, with 148 dissolved companies. February followed, with 63, and March, with 50.
This cross-referencing of data leaves a positive balance for the quarter. Between companies created and dissolved, Girona registered 422 more open companies than closed ones between January and March.
The difference improves that of the first quarter of the previous year, when the net balance between establishments and dissolutions had been 257 companies.
