A woman died stabbed on Tuesday afternoon in plaça Tarradellas in Figueres, allegedly at the hands of her ex-partner, who had already been arrested the previous day for violating a restraining order. The Figueres court on duty has now ordered provisional detention, communicated and without bail, for the detainee for intentional homicide and breach of sentence.
The case concentrates in less than two days a sequence of decisions and recidivism. The suspect accepted a plea deal on Monday with six months in prison and a restraining order for mistreating the victim, he attacked her again that same afternoon, regained his freedom on Tuesday at noon, and just a few hours later, returned to look for her and stabbed her.
The detainee accepted a sentence on Monday and was released on Tuesday at noon
The ruling he had accepted on Monday included, in addition to six months in prison, a restraining order and no contact for one year and four months with his ex-partner. Despite this, the man violated that measure a few hours later and the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested him again.
The victim did not attend the forensic evaluation to which the court had summoned her. After this non-appearance, the detainee regained his freedom on Tuesday at noon.
Hours later, around 2:45 PM, the man again violated the restraining order and no contact order and attacked his ex-partner in the middle of plaça Tarradellas.
Several passers-by restrained the suspect near a fountain in plaça Tarradellas
After the assault, the alleged perpetrator washed his bloodied arms in a nearby fountain. Several passers-by restrained him there to prevent him from fleeing until the arrival of the Mossos d'Esquadra.
When the officers arrived at the scene, they arrested the man and brought him back to judicial disposition on Friday morning. The Figueres court on duty subsequently ordered his provisional detention, communicated and without bail.
SEM (Emergency Medical Services) personnel also went to plaça Tarradellas, who tried to attend to the victim, although they could not save her life.
