The Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, has ordered the opening of a reserved investigation to clarify the presence of agents of the Mossos d'Esquadra at an assembly of teachers in which strike mobilizations were being prepared. The investigation, already initiated, must determine if there was irregular conduct and if it is appropriate to open a disciplinary file on the agents involved.
Parlon has pointed out the main anomaly as the operation being executed without her, the Director General of the Police, Josep Lluís Trapero, or the Chief Commissioner of the Mossos d'Esquadra, Miquel Esquius, having prior knowledge. The minister has defended that the police have the legal capacity to gather information and assess risks, but has admitted that in this case the action was not carried out properly.
Parlon ordered the protocol to be reviewed after the presence of two agents at the assembly
The councilor appeared in Parliament alongside Trapero to respond to the complaint filed by the CGT about alleged police infiltration in the meeting of the educational sphere. In addition to the reserved information, she requested a formal review of the procedure applied by the General Information Commissioner's Office to assess risks in protest calls.
In her speech, Parlon described the attendance of two agents specialized in mediation and labor conflicts at the meeting as an unfortunate event and a poorly conceived maneuver. She also maintained that unnecessary risks were taken during that action.
The councilor framed what happened as an operational and not political maneuver. Even so, she admitted that a police operation cannot break the trust of social movements, trade union organizations, and citizens towards the corps.
Interior apologized to the CGT and is studying if there was disciplinary responsibility
Parlon conveyed apologies to the educational unions and expressly cited the CGT for the feeling of distrust and insecurity that the action may have generated in an assembly linked to the right to protest. The review opened by Interior must clarify why that device was activated and how the usual protocol was applied.
At the same time, the minister maintained her support for the body and asked not to identify this episode with the ordinary work of the Mossos d'Esquadra. Parlon said she trusted the professionalism of the agents despite the controversy opened by the action at the meeting of teachers.
For now, the reserved information initiated yesterday will decide whether a disciplinary file is opened against the agents involved in the operation.
