The Contracting Board of the Girona City Council has proposed awarding the management of the Cinema Truffaut to Rambla de l'Art-Cambrils AIE, which won the tender with 90.75 points compared to the 88.59 points of the Girona Film Critics Collective.
The difference was 2.16 points in a facility that has been linked to the Girona Film Critics Collective for more than two decades. The paradox of the process is that the entity that has managed the venue for 25 years achieved a better score in the cultural assessment, but lost the award because Rambla de l'Art-Cambrils AIE obtained a higher score in the economic section.
The tender gave more weight to the economic offer than to the cultural proposal
The tender document distributed the points between 49 points for cultural assessment criteria and 51 for economic and automatic criteria. That distribution ended up being decisive in the award proposal.
The Girona Film Critics Collective surpassed its competitor in the cultural section, while Rambla de l'Art-Cambrils AIE came out ahead in the economic part. With that result, the Contracting Board submitted the proposal in favor of the Cambrils-based company.
During the processing of the procedure, the Girona Film Critics Collective has remained in charge of the service on a temporary basis while the administrative process was resolved.
The Truffaut maintains a unique position in the center of Girona
The decision affects a municipal venue with an unusual role in the city. The Cinema Truffaut is the only cinema left in the center of Girona and has maintained original versions as a defining feature of its programming.
Furthermore, it has been part of Europa Cinemas since 2001 and serves as the official venue for the Filmoteca de Catalunya in Girona. Throughout its history, the venue has specialized in auteur cinema and minority productions.
Girona also preserves a cinematic tradition linked to names such as Albert Serra and Isaki Lacuesta, a context in which the Truffaut has functioned as one of the stable spaces for this type of exhibition.
The municipal venue has completed 25 years and during that period has become associated with the original version programming promoted by the Girona Film Critics Collective.
