The Josep Trueta hospital has launched the solidarity campaign Together, one heartbeat will finance the comprehensive renovation of the Cardiology Critical Care Unit, located on the sixth floor of the center. The objective is to update an area that attends to more than 500 patients with serious cardiovascular pathologies and complex clinical situations each year.
The initiative stems from a healthcare paradox in Girona. The Trueta has the only unit of its kind in the region and already provides advanced critical cardiovascular care without referring patients outside the territory, but it seeks funds to completely renovate a space that must adapt to this growing clinical complexity.
The unit attends to more than 500 serious cases per year
Patients with acute myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, cardiogenic shock, severe arrhythmias, and also those in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery are admitted to this area. The activity therefore concentrates some of the most delicate conditions in hospital care in the province.
Furthermore, the recent incorporation of ECMO, mechanical ventilation, and ventricular assist devices has expanded the center's capacity to treat highly complex cases. This technological leap allows for advanced critical cardiovascular care to be provided in Girona without transferring patients to other hospitals outside the territory.
The planned renovation includes larger cubicles, new control and monitoring systems, and ergonomic improvements for caregiving work. The project also includes specific spaces for preparing medication, performing procedures, incorporating state-of-the-art equipment, and reinforcing environmental control systems.
Girona FC took the campaign to Montilivi's video screens
The campaign has already begun to seek support outside the hospital. During the match between Girona FC and Real Sociedad, the club projected a promotional video on Montilivi's video screens with a QR code to channel donations from attendees.
The Rally Costa Brava and the Club Natació Banyoles have also joined the effort, promoting solidarity actions linked to the project. The involvement of these entities broadens the reach of a campaign that appeals to both the healthcare environment and the sporting and social fabric of the region.
From the Josep Trueta hospital they maintain that collaboration between institutions and entities of the territory is key to reinforcing the healthcare system's response capacity to serious cardiovascular pathologies.
