The pre-enrollment for intermediate and higher vocational training degrees for the next academic year will start on May 26 and end on June 1, within a calendar that will reduce the process from three to two rounds to speed up the assignment of places and enrollment. The Departament d'Educació presented this Friday the offer for 2026-2027 at the Miquel Biada institute in Mataró.
The change comes with a significant expansion of the railway offer, which will reach 305 places and almost double the current figure. The novelty is that this expansion is distributed among Mataró, Barcelona, and other courses linked to the sector, whereas until now the only intermediate degree in Railway Rolling Stock Maintenance was only offered in Vilanova i la Geltrú.
Educació will increase railway places to 305 and open new courses in Mataró and Torre Baró
In September, the Miquel Biada institute will launch a security degree oriented towards the railway professional profile. In Barcelona, the Pablo R. Picasso institute in the Torre Baró neighborhood will incorporate two new intermediate degrees, Railway Rolling Stock Maintenance and Administrative Management oriented towards the railway transport sector.
Until now, the intermediate degree in Railway Rolling Stock Maintenance was only offered at the Francesc Xavier Lluch i Rafecas institute in Vilanova i la Geltrú. With the expansion planned for the next academic year, the network gains new training points in an area that the Departament d'Educació has identified as one of the fastest growing.
The distribution of the railway offer includes 180 intermediate degree places for rolling stock maintenance, in addition to 30 places for security and 30 for administrative management linked to railway transport. To this are added 20 higher degree places for civil engineering projects, 30 for specialization in advanced maintenance, and 15 for professional certificates.
Vocational Training will add 4,989 places and 493 teachers with an AI-assisted assignment system
The expansion is not limited to the railway sector. The Departament d'Educació will increase vocational training places by 4,989 and add 493 teachers to attend to new groups, guidance tasks, and inclusive education measures.
In addition, the catalog will incorporate two new courses in other sectors, the higher degree in Glass Art and that of Canoeing in Calm Waters. The presentation of the offer was made in Mataró, one of the municipalities that will add one of the most specific novelties of the next academic year.
The adjudication system will also change for part of the students who are left out in the first assignment. A system with artificial intelligence will propose alternative courses among the available vacancies to 30% of students who have only indicated one or two options and do not obtain a place.
In those cases, the tool will suggest afternoon schedules or nearby centers when the student has only marked Barcelona or only daytime classes. Enrollment for the FP process will end on July 29.
