A 68-year-old motorcyclist, a resident of Rabós d'Empordà, died on Sunday night in a traffic accident on the C-252, at kilometer 54.6, in Garriguella. Two cars and a motorcycle were involved in the incident, which occurred around 10:30 p.m.
The death brings the total number of victims on the roads of Girona province so far this year to six, and the number of motorcyclists killed in Catalonia to 19. A healthcare worker off duty initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers before the arrival of emergency teams, but the SEM could not revive the driver.
The collision in Garriguella left the C-252 completely closed
The deceased is J.R.S.A. Emergency services received the alert about the accident on Sunday night and dispatched two SEM units, two from the Bombers de la Generalitat, and five Mossos d'Esquadra patrols to the scene.
During the operation, the road was completely closed. In addition to medical assistance, the SEM activated the psychological support service to assist those affected by the incident.
A healthcare worker who was off duty was the first to attend to the motorcyclist and began resuscitation maneuvers before the arrival of the mobilized teams. Despite this initial intervention, SEM professionals confirmed the man's death at the scene of the accident.
Girona adds six deaths and Catalonia reaches 48 victims this year
With this fatality, Girona province has now recorded six deaths in traffic accidents since January. The Mossos d'Esquadra have taken over the investigation to clarify the causes of a collision in which three vehicles were involved.
The previous fatal accident on the Girona road network occurred on May 9 on the C-152, at kilometer 43, in Vall d'en Bas, near les Preses. In that accident, the driver of an SUV, a 77-year-old man, died.
According to provisional data from the Servei Català de Trànsit, 48 people have died on Catalan roads this year. Of that total, 19 of the victims were motorcyclists.
