A 78-year-old driver is being investigated for an alleged crime against road safety after his vehicle went off the road and fell into a canal on the Camí Vell de Roses, in Castelló d'Empúries. The accident occurred on Saturday around 1630 hours.
Intervention of emergency services
After the accident, emergency services went to the scene to rescue the driver, who had been trapped inside the vehicle. Mossos d"Esquadra, Bombers, and the SEM participated in the intervention. The man was transferred to Hospital de Figueres by protocol, although he did not present serious injuries.
Breathalyzer test and police action
The Local Police of Castelló d"Empúries detected "obvious signs of being drunk" in the driver. In the first breathalyzer test, the result was 1.74 mg/liter of exhaled air, which is almost seven times the general permitted limit of 0.25 mg/l. The driver refused to perform the second test requested by the officers.

Open investigation
The security force has informed that the driver will be investigated for an alleged crime against road safety. The collaboration between Mossos d"Esquadra, Bombers and the SEM allowed to resolve the emergency without serious physical consequences for the involved party.
