A group of neighbors from Font de la Pólvora, in Girona, forced the departure from the neighborhood of Carlos Oswaldo Bello Núñez, convicted of the murder of a young man in Pineda de Mar in 2006, and his current partner. The departure occurred on Thursday afternoon after several days of tension and with the accompaniment of Mossos d'Esquadra patrols.

Bello Núñez had settled in this neighborhood of Girona with his partner, Daniel, 51 years old and of Spanish nationality, after having left prison a few years earlier. Both had been living for about eight months in a rented apartment.

Neighbor tension after his identity is released

Last Monday the 20th, the santero and his partner went to the Mossos de Girona police station to report some events to the agents. They did not end up filing a complaint. During that procedure, the police identified Bello Núñez and Daniel, who, according to sources close to the case, also has a criminal record.

From there, information about their presence in the neighborhood began to circulate among the neighbors. Some mistakenly identified them as child abusers, a confusion that increased concern in the area and activated the reaction of part of the neighborhood.

On Thursday afternoon, about seventy neighbors, most of them with sticks, gathered at the couple's home to speak with the owner of the apartment. During that protest, they stated that the couple would not stay in the neighborhood and warned that they would leave, one way or another.

The couple was alerted to what was happening and went to the Citizen Attention Office of the Mossos d'Esquadra to report the situation. From that moment on, agents responsible for dealing with neighborhood representatives intervened and several patrols were deployed.

Finally, the Mossos accompanied the couple to the home so they could collect their belongings. Afterwards, they voluntarily left the Font de la Pólvora to avoid further conflicts, in a police vehicle.

A firm conviction for a 2006 crime

Carlos Oswaldo Bello Núñez was convicted in 2009 by the Barcelona Court along with sailor Marcos Antonio Carrillo López for the murder of Francisco Javier Galera Moreno, committed in May 2006 in Pineda de Mar. The sentence, confirmed a year later by the Supreme Court, imposed on both 17 years in prison.

During the trial, the two convicted individuals incriminated each other and presented a version of events marked by mutual accusations. Carrillo López even pointed to Bello Núñez as the alleged perpetrator of sexual abuse against him and the victim.

The departure of the couple from the neighborhood occurred without a formal complaint being filed for the facts initially reported at the police station, although the police intervention prevented the neighborhood tension from escalating into a larger incident in this area of eastern Girona.
