Sant Jordi arrives this Thursday, April 23, with unstable weather in Catalunya. The forecast points to a meteorologically insecure day, with possible showers or storms in the middle of the day of books and roses, although with high temperatures for this time of year.
Risk of uneven rain according to the territory
The Meteocat forecast places the probability of rain at 23% in Barcelona, while in Girona it rises to 28%. The scenario is more uncertain inland and in the south, with 47% in Lleida and 38% in Tarragona.
That pattern leaves a Sant Jordi dependent on the sky in a good part of the country, especially in the demarcations with more options for showers during the day. In parallel, the atmosphere will be clearly mild, even warm in many regions.
Warm atmosphere in mid-April
For this Thursday, temperatures above 22ºC are expected in most of Catalunya. In areas of Terres de l'Ebre, Ponent, and the northeast quadrant, thermometers could reach up to 25ºC.
The thermal rise will continue on Friday. The forecast points to maximums of around 28ºC in Ponent and above 26ºC in much of the interior. In high mountains, the snow line will be around 2,600 meters in the Pirineo and the Prepirineo.
Temperatures above the usual
Aemet already forecasts that thermal values will be notably higher than normal for this time of year. The contrast between the unseasonable heat of late April and the possibility of storms will thus mark the start of one of the busiest days of the calendar in the streets and squares of Catalunya.
With this scenario, the development of Sant Jordi will largely depend on the evolution of rain nuclei throughout Thursday, on a day that presents itself warm but with room for episodes of instability.
