Torrential rains associated with storm Regina have activated yellow and orange level warnings in several regions of Catalonia. The Meteorological Service of Catalonia warns of accumulations that can exceed 100 liters per square meter in a single day, especially in the northeast and south of the territory.

Pre-alert for risk of floods and warnings in force

Civil Protection maintains the pre-alert of its flood plan and asks the population to take extreme precautions. The warnings will be in effect from Thursday morning until at least Friday afternoon. Rains will begin to affect a good part of the Catalan territory from early Thursday morning.

In Terra Alta, Baix Ebre and Montsià, a yellow warning has been activated for rain accumulation. Forecasts indicate that the showers will be especially intense in Empordà, Garrotxa, Ripollès, Osona, Selva and Vallès Oriental, where the orange level has been decreed, corresponding to a danger level of 3 out of 6.

Wind and maritime storm on the Catalan coast

On Wednesday, warnings for wind gusts of up to 72 km/h were registered from Maresme to Tarragonès. Meteocat keeps most of the wind warnings active in Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, Garraf, Baix Penedès and Tarragonès during Thursday.

The poor sea conditions affect the entire Catalan coast, from Empordà to Terres de l"Ebre. Waves can exceed 2.5 meters and the most severe warnings for maritime storm are concentrated on the north coast, where the orange level has been decreed.

Progressive deactivation of notices

On Friday afternoon, only yellow level warnings for rough seas will remain active from Empordà to Barcelona. The warnings for rain and wind will be deactivated starting Friday afternoon, according to meteorological forecasts.
