Poma de Girona expects to recover next season a production of 100 million kilos of fruit, a figure similar to that reached in 2024, after closing 2025 with an 11% drop and a harvest of 89 million kilos.

The sector's forecasts were announced during the annual partners' assembly held in Pals, in the Baix Empordà, where it was also stated that the 2025 harvest has been carried out in 2,100 hectares of cultivation. The organization places its immediate horizon at 90,000 tons and trusts to return to the volume of two years ago.

The sector is confident in returning to 2024 figures

The Indicación Geográfica Protegida Poma de Girona groups more than 80 producer partners and structures its activity over 2,100 productive hectares distributed between Baix Empordà, Alt Empordà, la Selva and Gironès. In this context, the objective for the next exercise is to leave behind the setback of 2025 and recover the reference production level.

The IGP is made up of three companies from the territory. These are Girona Fruits, in Bordils, Giropoma Costa Brava, in Ullà, and Fructícola Empordà, in Sant Pere Pescador.

The assembly puts the focus on quality, proximity and sustainability

During the assembly, the president of Poma de Girona, Jaume Armengol, and the director of the Serveis Territorials of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food in Girona, Josep Guix, intervened. Armengol referred to the "environmental challenge" of the sector and celebrated that local and quality products are "more recognized than ever".

"It has evolved to become an exemplary associative model, structured on criteria of quality, sustainability, and territorial cohesion" - Josep Guix, Departament d"Agricultura

At the meeting, dietitian Julio Basulto was also recognized for his career in scientific dissemination related to food and public health.

Debate on the role of the Girona agri-food sector

The day included a round table with representatives of the DO Empordà, the DOP Oli de l"Empordà, the Arròs de Pals and the IGP Poma de Girona. The debate revolved around the present and future of the Girona agri-food sector and the weight of top-quality food productions.

With that photograph, Poma de Girona faces the next campaign with the intention of recovering ground after the 2025 descent and consolidating a productive model that the sector links to quality, proximity and roots in the Girona regions.
