Two people have been arrested this Sunday morning after accessing without authorization the enclosure of the old thermal power plant of the Three Chimneys, in Sant Adrià de Besòs. The arrested, along with at least one other person, have climbed to the top of one of the towers, which reaches 200 meters in height. One of the members of the group has paraglided from the chimney closest to Badalona and has flown in the direction of the beach, as has been recorded in a video filmed by a witness.
Police intervention and rescue in the chimney
The Mossos d"Esquadra, together with the Badalona Urban Guard and the Sant Adrià Local Police, have gone to the scene after receiving the alert. While the thrower has not been located, the other two individuals have remained at the top of the chimney. According to police sources, the Urban Guard asked the young people to descend, but they ignored the request and refused to come down.
Given the refusal, the intervention of the Generalitat Firefighters has been required, who managed to get the two individuals to descend safely. Once on the ground, the Mossos d"Esquadra have proceeded to their arrest.
Seized material and profile of those arrested
Various consulted sources indicate that the two detainees are young foreigners. One source specifies that one is Belgian and the other German, while other versions suggest that both would be Dutch. Another source adds that the arrested individuals had no intention of jumping, but rather of recording the maneuver performed by at least one person before nine in the morning.
At the time of the arrest, the young people were carrying cameras, video equipment and drones, as all consulted sources agree.
Accusations and urbanistic context
The Mossos d"Esquadra attribute to them an alleged crime of legal domicile violation and damages, since to access the premises they would have forced a metal grate. The Urban Guard adds the accusation of serious disobedience for refusing the agents' instructions.
The old Three Chimneys power plant, closed by Endesa in 2011, is currently the epicenter of an ambitious urban development project. The plan foresees the construction of 1,783 homes and a complex for companies in the audiovisual, digital, and video game sector in the coming years.
