Girona has activated new emergency measures this Monday due to the increased flow of the Ter and Onyar rivers following intense rainfall in recent hours. The City Council has made available 25 additional beds for homeless people, which will be set up between today and tomorrow, thus strengthening social care services in the city.

Reinforcement of spaces in the old UNED and La Sopa

Of the new beds, five will be located in the old UNED, within Pla de Fred, bringing the **number of available spaces in this building to 53**, which the council uses every winter. The rest, about twenty, will be installed in the La Sopa reception center, which will then have **87 beds** for vulnerable people. At the beginning of the month, the City Council had already increased the capacity of both spaces in anticipation of extreme cold

Closure of Sports Facilities in Pont Major

Activities at the Pavelló and the Municipal Football Field in the Pont Major neighborhood have been suspended. These facilities are located very close to the bank of the Ter River, which has experienced a significant increase in flow since Saturday morning. According to data from the Francesc Ferrer i Gironès gauging station, the Ter River's flow has gone from about forty cubic meters per second to almost eighty in a few hours.

Increased flow in the Onyar and municipal warning

The flow of the Onyar River has also grown exponentially as it passes through Girona. This morning, the flow measured at the Font del Rei footbridge, renamed Cristina Cervià, was eight cubic meters per second. By early Monday afternoon, the figure had already reached 37 cubic meters per second.

The City Council has asked citizens not to approach the rivers and has informed that the Municipal Police will maintain surveillance over the flow at the most sensitive points in the city.
