A total of 2,809 out of 5,155 applicants who took the Personal Aptitude Test, the PAP, in Catalonia to access the degrees of Early Childhood Education and Primary Education have obtained a passing grade. The test, held on April 11 in the ordinary call, leaves an overall pass rate of 54.49%.

The PAP is an essential requirement to be able to start these university studies and access the teaching profession. The final grade is resolved as pass or fail and, once passed, it is valid indefinitely.

Differences between access routes

The results show differences among students according to their academic background. Among those who came from high school, 57.81% passed the test. In the case of students coming from higher vocational training cycles, the percentage of those who passed was 34.42%.

The evaluation measures two competencies considered basic for the teaching profession. On the one hand, communicative competence and critical reasoning. On the other, logical-mathematical competence.

Second chance in July

Candidates who have not passed the ordinary call may reapply on July 17, the date set for the extraordinary call. Those who then obtain a pass will be able to accredit the result in the September university pre-registration to access Education studies.

The PAU, next step for access

Students who have already passed the PAP must still complete the university access process with the Proves d"Accés a la Universitat, the PAU. The ordinary call will be held on June 9, 10, and 11, while the extraordinary one will take place on September 2, 3, and 4.

Regarding the enrollment for the ordinary session of the PAU, the calendar establishes a first period from May 5 to 11 for students with completed baccalaureate from outside Catalonia or from foreign educational systems, under free enrollment. For students who are in their second year of baccalaureate in Catalonia or a CFGS, the deadline will be from May 19 to 27.

With these deadlines already underway, students who wish to enter the Education degrees now face the decisive phase of the university access calendar, with the PAP already resolved for a part of the applicants and with a new opportunity planned before the September pre-registration.
