The Mossos d'Esquadra deployed on Tuesday morning an operation against a criminal organization with its epicenter in the province of Girona, allegedly dedicated to the cultivation and trafficking of marijuana, possession of weapons, and money laundering. The operation began around five in the morning and extended throughout Girona and about a dozen other municipalities in the demarcation.

The operation mobilized more than 600 agents and ended with several arrests and the seizure of drugs and weapons, although the exact number of arrests and the quantities seized have not yet been disclosed. The investigation is under seal, so the deployment has been massive, but the results are only known partially.

The operation was deployed in eleven municipalities in the demarcation

The operation is led by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Mossos in Girona. Units such as the DIC, GEI, BRIMO, ARRO, Scientific Police, Canine Unit, Air Support, Central Dispatch, and Citizen Security personnel have participated in the operation.

In addition to the capital of Girona, the searches and police actions reached Riudarenes, Cassà de la Selva, l'Escala, Sils, Caldes de Malavella, Brunyola, Llagostera, Bescanó, Celrà, Quart, and Salt. The objective is to dismantle a structure allegedly focused on drug trafficking, especially indoor marijuana plantations.

La Font de la Pólvora concentrated two searches without arrests

In Girona, part of the operation was concentrated in the Font de la Pólvora neighborhood. There, agents entered two homes on Font de la Pólvora Avenue.

In those searches, they located marijuana buds and left two people under investigation, although no arrests were made at that point. The overall balance of the operation does include arrests and seizures, but the Mossos have not specified how many or in which municipalities they occurred.

The case is investigating the organization for its alleged involvement in the cultivation and trafficking of marijuana, possession of weapons, and money laundering, in an operation that began around five in the morning on Tuesday.
