The Girona regions will debut a new fare integration system in public transport starting from March 2nd. The measure, announced by minister Sílvia Paneque, will affect 208 municipalities distributed in 11 zones and will allow up to three free transfers within a time limit that varies according to the distance traveled.
More than 400,000 people benefited
The Generalitat estimates that more than 400,000 users will benefit from the new integration. The system will allow three free transfers in a period ranging from 1 hour and 15 minutes for one zone and up to 4 hours and 15 minutes for four zones. The objective is to facilitate mobility between municipalities and reduce the cost of habitual travel.
Prices and titles with 50% reduction
The brochure of tickets and fares for 2026 includes the new prices, applying a 50% reduction thanks to RDL 9/2024 and the joint funding from the Ministry and the Generalitat. The T-10 will have a price of 6.40 euros for one zone and the T-MES will cost 26.65 euros in the same modality. In addition, the T-16 will be free for children and adolescents between 4 and 16 years old.
Information and adaptation period
Councillor Paneque has detailed that the information about the new system will be deployed both on the website and at physical points of sale. A total of 315 establishments will offer informational support to users during the adaptation process.
"The system will start on March 2 and during the first week a period of adaptation and progression of operation is foreseen" - Sílvia Paneque, minister
The titles acquired as of January 15, 2026 will maintain their validity until the next fare change, according to the official information brochure.
Progressive integration and limitations
The minister and the Directorate General of Mobility have reminded that urban buses depend on the city councils, responsible for defining their fare policy. The incorporation of each city's own tickets will be studied case by case, depending on the municipal will and the available platforms.
Paneque has stressed that councils that until now were not part of the ATM of Comarques Gironines are integrated. To facilitate the consultation, the ATM has launched a "zone counter" that allows checking which zone each municipality belongs to.
The railway integration, on hold
The integration of the railway system remains pending for a later phase and is linked to the deployment of the single ticket that the Ministry is preparing. Paneque has pointed to the second half of this year as a possible temporal reference, although he has insisted that there is no closed calendar.
"She has spoken of the second half of this year as an approximation, but has insisted that there is no closed calendar" - Sílvia Paneque, councillor
