Girona has become the floral epicenter of Catalonia with the celebration of a new edition of Temps de Flors. The event keeps its doors open until Sunday, May 17, and gathers thousands of visitors from all over the autonomous community.

More than 140 floral displays occupy the most emblematic corners of the city since Saturday. This year's artistic proposal pays homage to the figure of Antoni Gaudí on the centenary of his death through a central installation on the cathedral stairs.

Gaudí's dragon mutates into a cocollona

The main installation transforms the iconic dragon figure from Park Güell into a cocollona. This mythological animal is native to the locality and serves as a link between the work of the modernist architect and the popular tradition of Girona. The piece dominates the access to the temple and acts as the backbone of the visual narrative of the event.

The rain began to fall at six in the afternoon on the opening day without stopping the flow of tourists. The organizers kept all spaces open despite the inclement weather that complicated transit through the outdoor areas.

The historic bridges of Sant Agustí, Peixateries Velles, and d'en Gómez display their traditional floral tapestries. The organization has extended the route by incorporating installations on the Sant Feliu bridge. This expansion aims to decongest the most crowded areas and offer new perspectives on the Onyar River.

New spaces register high attendance

The gardens of Sant Feliu and the fountain of the archaeological promenade debut as official venues for the event. These additional points allow for better distribution of attendees and discover less frequented spots. The inclusion of these locations responds to the need to expand the exhibition area due to constant growth in demand.

The queues to access the Arab baths and the cathedral's underground were constant throughout the day. Visitors waited considerable minutes to contemplate the interventions located in these enclosures of high heritage value. The combination of historical architecture and ephemeral art generates an attraction that overflows the carrying capacity of some accesses.

Schools caused damage to protest facilities in Nou street the previous night. The damaged pieces were part of a protest against the current teacher conflict with the Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The authors thus denounced the situation in the education sector by altering the official decoration.

The edition consolidates its format after years of evolution and maintains the essence of transforming Girona's urbanism into a living museum. The massive presence of the public confirms the sustained interest in this cultural event that fuses nature, art, and heritage.

The official calendar marks Sunday, May 17 as the deadline to visit the 140 proposals distributed throughout the old town. The organizers plan to close access late in the afternoon of that day.
