More than a hundred people have walked this Tuesday through the center of Girona to demand the improvement of the working conditions of archaeologists in Catalonia. The mobilization has started from Independència square and has ended in front of the cathedral, in the full historic heart of the city.

Protest centered on the company Aixa-Ca Mansanes

The demonstration has put the focus on the situation of the workers of the company Aixa-Ca Mansanes. The collective has been on indefinite strike since August 13, 2025, a call promoted by the CNT-CIT union. The protest has developed peacefully and has counted on the presence of professionals from the sector and union representatives.

Labor conflict and sector context

The labor conflict of Aixa-Ca Mansanes is framed within a broader problem that affects commercial archaeology in Catalonia. The indefinite strike started in August is one of the most visible actions of a sector that denounces precariousness and lack of professional recognition.

In Catalonia, many archaeology companies carry out their activity in the field of preventive archaeology. This work consists of carrying out archaeological excavations or controls prior to the execution of public or private works, a fundamental task for the conservation of heritage.

The protesters have demanded improvements in working conditions and have warned about the need to address the structural problems affecting the sector. The Girona protest joins other initiatives that seek to make visible the situation of archaeologists throughout the autonomous community.
