The activist Maria Campuzano has died at the age of 44, as reported this Sunday by Enginyeria Sense Fronteres. Campuzano was one of the most recognized voices in Catalonia in the defense of the right to housing and in the fight against energy poverty, as well as spokesperson for the Aliança contra la Pobresa Energètica.
Referent in the defense of basic rights
The organization has communicated the death of Campuzano with a message of recognition for her personal and collective trajectory. It has defined her as "an inspiring person who has known how to leave the world better than how she found it".
"Maria has taught all of us to not take any step back, to put life at the center and to always point out the flagrant violations of rights, here and everywhere" - Enginyeria Sense Fronteres
In that same message, the entity has also underlined its role in the construction of networks beyond the local scope. It attributes to it the impulse of alliances on an international scale, considered key for the collective organization for the right to energy and for the energy sovereignty of peoples worldwide.
Farewell this Monday in Barcelona
The wake will be held this Monday between 4 PM and 6 PM in room 19 of the Tanatori Ronda de Dalt, in Barcelona. In the same facility, a ceremony is scheduled for 6 PM.
The death of Maria Campuzano leaves a void in the social movement linked to dignified housing and access to basic supplies, areas in which she maintained for years a prominent presence and a sustained work of denunciation.
