The Chamber of Commerce of Manresa will host next Thursday, April 30, a round table on cybersecurity aimed at older people. The event, organized by Regió7 and Prensa Ibérica with the sponsorship of CaixaBank, will begin at ten in the morning.
Experts analyze digital vulnerability
Albert Álvarez, chief sub-inspector of the Cybersecurity Area of the Mossos d'Esquadra; Marta Cabrera, head of the Public Service of Citizenship of the Cybersecurity Agency of Catalonia; and Virginia Fuster, head of cybersecurity culture at CaixaBank, will participate in the meeting.
"Social engineering, or the art of deception, affects all groups, equally"
The data reveal that the group between 46 and 65 years old concentrates the highest number of complaints and sums defrauded in Catalonia according to recent reports. Older victims suffer frauds with higher individual amounts due to their accumulated savings.
The impact of artificial intelligence
Technology facilitates massive campaigns in minutes thanks to the increase in the attack surface. Agents point out that the elderly are especially vulnerable during telephone interactions where they reduce their usual vigilance.
"Never trust, always verify", complementing common sense practices to avoid crimes
Catalonia registers approximately 6,000 monthly cybercrime complaints, with the majority being cases of cyber scams. Last year, over 78,000 reported cases were exceeded, although there is a significant dark figure due to the reluctance to report these incidents.
