Lluc Salellas confirmed this Saturday in Girona that he will seek re-election as mayor in the 2027 municipal elections leading the Guanyem Girona candidacy. The announcement was made public during an event held in the Jardins de la Infància.
The current mayor has also announced that, if he revalidates the position, he will complete an eight-year cycle at the head of the City Council and will not run for a third re-election. The intention is to close that political stage at the end of a second term.
The candidacy of Guanyem Girona for 2027
Salellas will thus once again lead Guanyem Girona's municipal proposal, the same formation with which he already ran in the 2023 elections. In the absence of more details about the composition of the candidacy or the program, the announcement already places the mayor in the electoral race for the next appointment with the polls.
A mandate initiated after the pact with Junts and ERC
Salellas was sworn in as mayor on June 17, 2023 after closing a pact with Junts and ERC. That agreement allowed his arrival to the mayor's office after the last municipal elections.
With this move, the mayor sets a political horizon for the coming years and clears up one of the unknowns in Girona's municipal politics. If he achieves re-election in 2027, he will not run again afterwards, with the intention of limiting his time at the head of the council to two terms.
