Josep Vila i Boix assumes the presidency of the Catalan National Assembly after being elected a few days before the constituent plenary session of April 25. The new leader, born in La Cellera de Ter in 1959, seeks to reverse the current moment by building a social majority in favor of independence.

The interview to confirm his appointment took place in a cafe in the Independence Square of Girona. Vila i Boix describes the situation as very low and attributes this circumstance to great frustration and repression that is still very much alive.

Internal Structure and Leadership

The former president Lluís Puig remains in the position of vice president, an unprecedented circumstance according to the text. Regarding his relationship with the new president, Vila i Boix stated "In fact, I think Lluís doesn't cast a shadow, he casts light".

It is proposed to reduce the number of national secretaries of the national plenary from 77 to between 40 or 50 members. This measure is part of the internal structural changes being considered to optimize the management of the sovereignist entity.

Strategic objectives and youth

The main objective is to reactivate the grassroots assemblies and strengthen them to structure the entire territory. The entity maintains its independence from political parties but will exert influence so that they put independence back at the center of their programs.

A large group of young people is collaborating with the ANC and is constituted as an entity with its own legal personality. This collective will be integrated as full members within the organization to energize political action.

"We are at a very low point, the result of great frustration and repression that is still very much alive" - Josep Vila i Boix, president of the ANC

The entity denounces both xenophobic attitudes and those that deny the right to self-determination. The next electoral appointments are municipal and Spanish next year, and to Parliament in 2028.
