The extraordinary plenary session held last Friday in Lloret de Mar left the municipal government in a political minority on one of its most sensitive fronts, the labor dispute open at the City Council. The motion on the situation of the staff was passed with the support of the entire opposition and also with the vote of Lloret en Comú, a government partner of the PSC, in addition to Sumem Lloret.
The central tension of the session appeared in the vote itself. The mayor, Adrià Lamelas, was censured not only by the opposition groups, but also by parties that had until now supported or accompanied the local executive in key decisions.
ERC reproached the mayor for losing the support of partners and allies
Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya lashed out at the municipal government for not taking responsibility in a dispute that has dragged on for months of internal tension. Its spokesperson, Albert Ferrández, placed the political scope of the session in the mayor's loss of support within the municipal landscape itself.
"The most notable fact is that the mayor was censured not only by the opposition, but also by his political partners and allies. It is an extraordinary situation that shows his loss of credibility and leadership" - Albert Ferrández, spokesperson for Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya in Lloret de Mar
ERC linked that vote to a deterioration of municipal governance. The party maintains that the dispute now affects not only labor relations within the council, but also public services, staff motivation, and citizen services in Lloret de Mar.
Nearly a hundred workers filled the room during the plenary session
The session was held with a massive presence of municipal employees. Nearly a hundred workers filled the plenary hall, a fact that Ferrández used to emphasize that the staff's discontent had reached the center of the political debate.
During the intervention of the Councilor for Human Resources, the workers responded with an ironic applause. ERC interpreted that reaction as a clear sign of rejection of the executive's explanations during the extraordinary session.
Ferrández framed the episode within a conflict that, in his group's opinion, the government has not known how to read. The ERC spokesperson stated that labor problems can occur in any administration, but added that it is serious to maintain the same position after months of tension and with the plenary hall occupied by municipal workers.
"Labor conflicts can exist in any administration, but it is serious that, after months of tension and with nearly a hundred workers filling the plenary hall, the government continues to not understand the message the staff is sending them" - Albert Ferrández, spokesperson for Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya in Lloret de Mar
In addition to the PSC and its government partners, the vote placed Sumem Lloret in the same bloc as the opposition on this motion. ERC identifies that formation as one of Adrià Lamelas's main political supports within the current municipal scenario.
In his final assessment, Albert Ferrández called on the local government to abandon confrontation with the workers and seek a negotiated solution, and closed his speech with a specific request to the Lloret de Mar executive, demanding that they listen, dialogue, and rectify when they are wrong.
